BAföG opening for Ukrainian refugee students

From June 1, 2022, Ukrainian students can receive the German Federal Training Assistance Act (the so-called BAföG) if they have or have applied for a residence permit in accordance with Section 24 Paragraph 1 of the Residence Act.

BAföG is usually granted half as a grant and half as an interest-free loan. You have to repay a maximum of 10,010 euros from the loan amount.

You submit an application for BAföG to the Office for Educational Support (BAföG Office) at the student union at your university location. It will also give you free advice on BAföG.

For your BAföG application, it is best to use the digital application assistant BAföGdigital.

IMPORTANT: You can only apply for BAföG once you are enrolled in your degree program.
