Scholarship Database

International students from all subjects (except the medical disciplines) who have been admitted to a doctoral programme at a German higher education institution are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Eligible candidates come from countries in the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states as well as eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries. Eligibility criteria include an excellent academic record and voluntary social and political involvement. PhD students receive material and non-material support. Funded students should be able to concentrate on their studies without financial worries and have more time for their volunteer work.

Anybody who has been unconditionally accepted for a doctorate at a German institution of higher education is invited to apply – except the medical disciplines. Eligible applicants come from countries in the Global South (Asia, Africa, Latin America), post-Soviet states as well as eastern and south-eastern European (EU) countries. PhD students from OECD countries cannot receive funding.

With the exception of doctorates in medicine, doctorates are supported in all degree programmes.

The duration of funding is generally 3.5 years. In exceptional cases, funding may be granted for longer, but no longer than until the date of the final examination.
